The U.S. Navy said Saturday that a naval helicopter noticed a group of Islamic Revolutionary Guard ships heading toward the USS Nimitz's strike group "at a high rate of speed".

The move at 4pm on Friday comes after a US Navy patrol ship fired warning shots at a Guards boat in the Gulf as it closed in on the American vessel on Tuesday, US officials said.

In a provocative and unprofessional action, the Americans even fired warning shots at the Zulfaqar navy boats; however, the IRGC forces pursued their mission in the region until the USS Nimitz and the other warship left the region in central Persian Gulf.

Then American warships opened fire in what the IRGC described as "a provocative and unprofessional move". The aircraft carrier was accompanied by cruiser.

Earlier this week, the USS Thunderbolt patrol ship fired several warning shots at an Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps ship in the Gulf.

The officials said the Iranian boat is believed to have been operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

No warning shots were fired during that encounter, but USA defense officials criticized the use of the Iranian laser.

It is the second confrontation between U.S. and Iranian navies in the Persian Gulf this week.

Iran and the United States. frequently have run-ins in the Persian Gulf, almost all involving the Revolutionary Guard.

The Trump administration recently declared that Iran was complying with the nuclear deal, but warned that Tehran was not following the spirit of the accord and that Washington would look for ways to strengthen it.

Mr Araghchi said the new sanctions are "a breach of the deal in articles 26, 28 and 29".

On Saturday Iran's foreign ministry said the missile program is part of "domestic policy of the country, deterrent and at service of regional peace and security".
