Kaspersky Lab chief to show USA government company source code

Kaspersky Situation Desperate, Agrees to Submit Software Source Code to US Scrutiny Kaspersky Chief Says Willing To Allow US Officials To Examine Products' Source Code
Debra Rodriguez | 04 July, 2017, 00:51

Eugene Kaspersky, CEO and founder of of cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Lab, said he would allow the United States government examine the source code of his company's products to prove Kaspersky Lab has no ties to the Russian government.

Kaspersky stated he was ready to testify before USA lawmakers and disclose his company's source code if needs be.

"Just as a US-based cybersecurity company doesn't allow access or send any sensitive data from its products to the USA government, Kaspersky Lab products also do not allow any access or provide any private data to any country's government", the statement added.

Senior U.S. intelligence officials have suggested Congress steer well clear of Kaspersky's products and lawmakers are weighing a proposal to ban the company from the Pentagon.

There's never been any proof that Kaspersky is in bed with the Putin regime - in fact, it's more logical that he isn't.

Educated at a KGB-backed school, Eugene Kaspersky once worked for Russian military intelligence.

Kaspersky CEO also admitted that Russian intelligence worker was one of his staff.

For Kaspersky though, the fear is losing some lucrative government contracts and for that, Mr Kaspersky is willing to do whatever it takes to show he is on the level.

Nevertheless, in this case regarding the United States' concerns with Kaspersky, the current source code may not be too relevant as the concerns are not about what the company has done or is now doing, but about what it could to in the future. After all, to admit to that, and then simultaneously do it, would be either a cunning double bluff, or more likely, bloody stupid.

Less than a week ago, the Federal Bureau of Investigation "visited" some of the company's employees to gain information on liaisons between Kaspersky Lab's Russian corporate offices and its operations in the United States. Because for Russia it's very unusual, a Russian IT that's very successful everywhere around the world. The company said, "One of the labs inspecting its products was not independent enough from the Russian government".

"I stopped that immediately".

These gestures come amidst widespread suspicion among US intelligence officers that Kaspersky Lab operates under the Kremlin's thumb.

This, he said, could include appearing in front of U.S. government officials in person and confirming the veracity of the company's products under oath.

Kaspersky Lab has been the subject of lawmaker skepticism in recent months due to its suspected relationship with the Russian government. He highlighted he would never cooperate with another country's offensive cyber operations "We stay on the bright side, and never, never go to the dark side".
