The Atlanta Hawks will not match the New York Knicks' massive four-year, $71 million contract offer to Tim Hardaway Jr.

Tim Hardaway Jr.is ready for his second stint with the New York Knicks.

Hardaway's contract includes a 15 percent trade kicker, meaning the Knicks will be forced to pay an extra 15 percent of any remaining salary on his deal, making that the poison pill and absolute deal-breaker for Atlanta.

Two days later, the Knicks officially announced that the Atlanta Hawks would be letting the restricted free agent walk and thus join the Knicks.

New York's offer sheet includes an unusual provision requiring the team to pay 50 percent of Hardaway's annual salary by October 1 of every season, according to league sources.

Mills has all but confirmed the youth movement in his explanation of the Hardaway Jr. signing.

The deal will eat up all of the Knicks cap space, although they can clear more through trades and/or sign players using exceptions. During the 2016-17 season, the former 2013 first-round draft choice of NY recorded career-highs in scoring (14.5 ppg), assists (2.3 apg), rebounds (2.8 rpg), minutes played (27.3), field goal percentage (.455), three-point makes (149) and attempts (417) and free throw makes (164) and attempts (214). Baker, though, has already agreed to a deal with NY.

The move could mean the Knicks will strengthen their efforts to trade veteran star Carmelo Anthony. The club is looking for a veteran point guard to mentor rookie Frank Ntilikina but has limited resources to find one.
