The committee also said it wants to hear from Mr. Manafort about Russia's attempts to influence the election previous year. In a joint statement, Senators Chuck Grassley and Dianne Feinstein also said they are negotiating with Mr. Trump Jr. and Mr. Manafort about possibly turning over documents.

He will speak with both the Senate and House intelligence committees this week following the stunning revelation that he met with a Kremlin-linked lawyer during the campaign.

Both committees are investigating aspects of Russia's attack on the 2016 presidential election.

The committee wanted Manafort to testify on enforcement of the Foreign Agents Registration Act and Russia's attempts to influence US elections.

"While the Judiciary Committee was willing to cooperate on equal terms with any other committee to accommodate Mr. Manafort's request, ultimately that was not possible", they said. That meeting was held in Trump Tower in NY after the lawyer offered damaging information about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

The committee said last week that it would not subpoena Manafort as it negotiated an agreement with him to provide documents and be interviewed by committee members and staff. Manafort spokesman Jason Maloni says Manafort "answered their questions fully". The New York Times reported recently that Manafort was indebted to pro-Russian interests as late as previous year.

If the Republican-led Senate passes the measure, Trump will need to decide whether to sign the bill or veto it. Glenn Simpson, founder of Fusion GPS, a research firm hired by Trump political opponents to investigate the GOP nominee's Russian Federation ties, was also invited to next week's hearing, but declined, according to the statement from Grassley's office.

President Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, was also present at the meeting.

Simpson hired former British spy Christopher Steele past year to research Trump's ties to Russian Federation at the request of anti-Trump Republicans.

Russian Federation is also the focus in a bill that the House is expected to pass on Tuesday.

In a tweet Tuesday, he again referred to the multiple Russian Federation investigations as a "Witch Hunt".

Kushner spoke privately Monday with Senate intelligence committee investigators examining ties between Trump's presidential campaign and the Russian government.

On Monday, he answered questions from staff on the Senate's intelligence panel.

The sanctions bill, which has the support of both parties in the House, aims to punish Russian Federation for its 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine and for the alleged election interference. He acknowledged four meetings with Russians during and after Trump's victorious White House bid.
