As Elliott Rooney of Pro Football Focus noted, "Rhodes only allowed a passer rating of 47.0 in 2016, which was the lowest of any cornerback".

The new contract includes $41 million guaranteed and pays more than $42 million over the first three years, according to ESPN.

Cornerback Xavier Rhodes has signed a contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings, the team announced Sunday.

Should the Vikings reach an agreement with Rhodes, it would be the second time in two weeks that they locked up a key member of their defense.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) also pushed back hard against Trump's rhetoric. "These are animals", the president said. Trump, addressing a crowd in New York's Suffolk County. "I'd like to punch him in the face, I'll tell you".

Last week, the Vikings signed defensive end Everson Griffen to a five-year, $58 million extension. The Vikings are also discussing contract extensions with defensive tackle Linval Joseph and linebacker Anthony Barr.

Rhodes was elite in 2016, his fourth year in the NFL.

Rhodes' contract called for him to make just over $8 million this season and Schefter reports he'll make up to $70 million more over the five new years of the deal.

Rhodes, 27, is now the third-highest paid cornerback behind the Rams' Trumaine Johnson and Redskins Pro Bowler Josh Norman. "He loves the (Vikings) organization, but obviously it's a business".
