Thousands of police and paramilitary troopers are on a high alert with the authorities banning mobile internet while curfew-like restrictions have been imposed in some parts of Kashmir ahead of the first death anniversary of Hizb commander Burhan Wani.

He, however, questioned, "We want to ask one question, why did the PDP and BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir give compensation to the family of Burhan Wani".

The adviser said the Indian security forces had killed 150 Kashmiri people and injured some 20,000 others in the recent spate of state violence.

This morning, life returned to normal as shops and other business establishments opened across the Valley, while public transport also plied smoothly.

Burhan Wani along with his two associates was martyred by Indian troops in a fake encounter on July 8, last year.

The four South Kashmir districts saw large-scale violence like stone pelting and bandhs for almost six months last year after Wani's killing and the yatra was also badly affected by the unrest last year.

Over 100 people were killed, a lot of them protesters or bystanders, in the months that followed and many more sustained serious eye injuries from the controversial pellet guns used by Indian paramilitary and police to quell the protests. Besides state police forces and personnel deployed to fight militancy, almost 21,000 additional central paramilitary troops have been deployed in the Valley, The Indian Express reported on Thursday.

Official sources said that the government had given the go-ahead to the security agencies to take "legitimate action" against those Indian nationals who were working for Pakistan, including calling them formally for questioning. As the protestors started throwing stones, the police had to use tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.

Complete shutdown was observed in Trehgam area of Kupwara district on the third consecutive day, today, against the brutalities of Indian army and police.

Both countries claim the territory in full, and have fought two wars over it. General J.S. Sandhu, Corps Commander of Srinagar based Chinar Corps, on Friday visited south Kashmir areas to review security situation.

He launched a campaign on social media to inform the Kashmiri youth about Indian barbarism and cruelties on the innocent people, and exhorting them to rise for liberation from the Indian yoke, Sartaj noted.
