The company has posted the teaser video on its social media accounts which confirms that the name of Android 8 O will be reveled during Total Solar Eclipse. The company is certainly using the awe of this upcoming astronomical event to debut its next generation mobile operating system. The release will be live streamed starting at 2:40 p.m. EDT.
It will begin rolling out on Android within both the Google app and the GoogleChrome app now.
Oreo boasts several new features, including the ability to respond to notifications directly on a phone's home screen and the ability to access apps without installing them on a device. Users also have the option to manually turn off the feature on the Google app.
Google introduced Android 8.0 at Google I/O conference in may this year.
New notification dots have also been added which will flag when an app has an alert waiting to be addressed.
At first, this feature will be in the English language in the United States.
To date, Google hasn't officially disclosed what the "O" in "Android O" stands for, while many believe it could be Oreo.
The picture-in-picture mode will simply allow users to continue watching videos while working with other apps. Available on Android and IOS. "Android O is touching down to Earth with the total solar eclipse", the site promises, "bringing some super (sweet) new powers!"
