Chinese Side Requests Flag Meeting After Ladakh Face-off

Commentary: Calling China's bluff No ceremonial meeting between Indian and Chinese troops on the I-Day

"We urge the Indian side to abide by the LAC and relevant conventions between the two sides", she said.

A day after a skirmish between Indian and Chinese forces in Ladakh, both sides held a Border Personnel Meeting on Wednesday.

They today chose to strengthen the existing border mechanism to maintain peace.

The latest incident comes amid an ongoing dispute between the two sides over a strategic Himalayan plateau thousands of kilometres away where hundreds of Indian and Chinese soldiers have been facing off against each other for more than two months. Sources said that the "High Alert" for the troops will continue for few days.

The Indian defence and external affairs ministries did not immediately respond to inquiries from the South China Morning Post, nor did the Chinese defence ministry.

Chinese troops first tried to infiltrate into the Indian territory through the Finger Four area, a region that has been a bone of contention between India and China as both claim it to be a part of their territory.

On June 18, 2017, around 270 Indian troops, with weapons and two bulldozers, entered Doklam to stop the Chinese troops from constructing the road.

The Indian troops sought a flag meeting on the issue but it did not materialize even till Wednesday afternoon. An Indian intelligence officer said the confrontation occurred after Indian soldiers intercepted a Chinese patrol that veered into Indian-held territory after apparently it lost its way due to bad weather. Soldiers of the PLA had crossed the LAC deep into the Indian territory. This assurance came after the soldiers of two armies got into clash at Pangong Lake. The Indian team formed a human chain and carried out a banner drill asking the Chinese to go back to their positions.

Meanwhile at least 52 trucks belonging to PLA parked on the road built by the Chinese army were spotted on the side of the lake. The mountains sloping on the sides of the river form finger like structures.

The US department also stated, we want India, China to have conversations because we have the relationship between both governments. Located at an altitude of 13,900-feet across the Changla Pass, Pangong Tso is a 134-km long brackish lake in which both armies have also deployed armed boats against each other.
