On Monday the Spanish Federation (RFEF) issued Ronaldo with an automatic one-game ban for the red card plus an extra four-match suspension for the push.

The Portuguese captain was controversially sent off as Madrid won the first leg of the Super Cup 3-1 on Sunday at the Camp Nou. Spanish media reports said Madrid appealed Ronaldo's second yellow card, when the Portugal forward was booked for diving.

"I'm not going to get involved with the referees but, after what happened, to think that he'll not play for five games makes you think that something isn't right".

'But in nine years at Barcelona this is the first time that I have felt we are inferior to Madrid'.

"What happened, happened, but when you look at what happened and see they have given him five games, it's a lot".

M - Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-0 at the Bernabeu to win the Spanish Super Cup 5-1 on aggregate, BBC Sport reported.

Asked if he believed the ban was created to single out Ronaldo, Zidane said, "I don't know, I don't think so and I hope not, I hope they did it with conscious and because they are doing their jobs, but well, in the end what sticks with me is the five games".

After being shown the 10th red card of his career, Ronaldo then lightly pushed the referee.

"It's an excessive ban and a frustrating situation".

"We're all upset with the punishment as Cristiano is an important player for us".

Suarez was proving to be Barcelona's best hope of netting a consolation, heading the ball against the post after Messi's initial shot was parried by Navas, having also set up a chance for Roberto which the wing-back failed to take.
