Just a handful of days after a deadly tragedy in a Gorakhpur hospital, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the state police to celebrate Janmashtami in a grand way. He said that on August 7, 9 deaths have occurred.

Despite calling the disruption of oxygen as a major lapse, the UP government maintained that none of the deaths were caused due to shortage of oxygen.

Supreme Court today refused to intervene in the issue of Gorakhpur hospital deaths, saying the matter was being handled by the Uttar Pradesh government.

The copies of this letter were sent to Chief Minister Adityanath, state Health Minister Siddhartha Nath Singh, Director General Health Services and the Principal Secretary - Medical Education.

Taking strong view of death of over 60 children in the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, the UP government on Saturday suspended the principal with immediate effect for negligence on his part. 641 children died last year and 491 in the year 2015.

"There are allegations of corruption against some medical college doctors.we are investigating if a bribe was demanded for clearing dues of the oxygen supplying company, " said a health department official here.

He last played an ODI against New Zealand in October 2016 and has now regained his spot in the national team. Rohit Sharma returns to India's squad as vice-captain and the fit-again KL Rahul is also back in the fray.

Meanwhile, the Congress on Sunday noted that GorakhpurHospital tragedy clearly reflects the failure of the state government and demanded that Yogi Adityanath immediately resign as Chief Minister. Tandon said "stringent action" would be taken against those responsible for the tragedy after the probe panel submitted its report.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel said that Prime Minister Modi had especially asked her to visit the hospital and get the necessary information that may help in the issue.

The Chief Minister, who has represented Gorakhpur in Parliament for almost 20 years, said dirty surroundings and open defecation were responsible for the deaths.

Pushpa Sales authorities said the hospital were well informed and reminded about the dues as well as the contract that promises arrears would not be more than '10 lakh.

Talking to media persons Mr Nadda announced that a regional medical research Centre will be established at Gorakhpur. This didn't go well with Twitterati as Sehwag tweeted about 50,000 deaths that have taken place due to encephalitis since it has been reported in 1978.
