Meanwhile, militant outfit Hizbul Mujhadeen Tuesday paid rich tributes to the three militants killed in a gunfight with Government Forces in Gulab Bagh Tral in South Kashmir.

Identities of the slain civilians were being ascertained at the time this report was published.

Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, said to be headed by Kashmiri militant Zakir Musa, broke away from Hizbul Mujahideen earlier this year, saying its members would fight "only for Islam and establishing Sharia rule, and not for nationalism or Pakistan'". He was also accused of thrashing and torturing some Special Police Officers at gunpoint and circulated the scenes on social media. The pictures were released by Zakir Musa group.

People took to the streets in the area and staged protest demonstrations against the operation.

The youth chanting pro-freedom and anti-India slogans wanted to march towards the encounter site. At places irate crowds of youth clashed with the security forces who fired teargas canisters to quell stone-pelting mobs. Police resorted to intense teargas shelling on protesters.

"He was shifted to Srinagar for treatment where he succumbed to critical injuries", police said.

The militants had then opened fire on security forces who were carrying out a search operation in Satoora forest there. Two civilians, identified as Firdous Ahmed Khan and Aqeel Ahmad Bhat were shot dead by the state government forces during the post encounter clashes.
