A majority of Americans disapprove of President Donald Trump's response to the racist violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, earlier this month, according to a new poll.
The survey was conducted after the press conference in which Trump defended people associated with white supremacist groups and said "both sides" were to blame for the violence in Charlottesville that left one counter-protester dead.
-Forty-five percent of Americans strongly disapprove of how Trump is doing his job, versus 22 percent who strongly approve.
The survey found that 13 percent of Republicans and 17 percent of respondents supporting President Donald Trump deemed neo-Nazi views as acceptable.
Believing in Neo-Nazi ideologies is considered acceptable by nine percent of the USA population, or around 22 million people, while 83 percent believe such views to be unacceptable, a new poll showed on Tuesday.
Flood emergency issued for Kansas City
Police say voluntary evacuations were in effect at Indian Creek from 103rd and Stateline to Wornall Road and 99th and Holmes. The flooding prompted several schools in the region to either cancel Tuesday's classes or delay the start of them.
Also related to the Charlottesville controversy, 10 percent say they support the "alt-right" movement, while 50 percent oppose it; indicating wide unfamiliarity, four in 10 have no opinion. One question in the poll asked respondents, "Do you yourself think it's acceptable or unacceptable to hold neo-Nazi or white supremacist views?" Christie said there's not a moral equivalency between white supremacists and the people protesting them.
The poll noted that approval of Trump is higher among men at 46 per cent, while only 28 per cent of women back his performance as leader. Thirty-seven percent of Americans approve of the job Trump is doing, 58 percent disapprove. At 18 percentage points this is not only the widest of his presidency, but wider than the largest gender gaps recorded for either of his two predecessors. While the approval numbers are low, they are similar to what they were before Charlottesville. Sixty-two percent of Republicans approve of Trump's response; this plummets to 28 percent of independents and 6 percent of Democrats.
Only 9percent overall say such views are acceptable.
The poll surveyed adults across the country from August 16 to 20 through calls to their cell phones or land lines.
