President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Friday night declared the victor of the August 08, 2017 election by the Electoral Commission Chairman, Chebukati with a 54.27% of the vote beating his closest rival, Raila Odinga who scored 44.74%. On Saturday (Aug. 12), Kenya's main Election Observation Group said its parallel vote tabulation matched the official tally from the national electoral commission.

It was his first appearance since the election commission (IEBC) on Friday declared President Uhuru Kenyatta the victor of a vote that Odinga says was rigged.

"He calls on those political leaders disputing the elections results to address election-related disputes through the relevant constitutionally mandated institutions", said the Spokesman said.

After the announcement, Kenyatta called for unity, telling opposition supporters: "I reach out to you..."

"At the end of the day we are all Kenyans, we don't need to fight one another, we don't need to destroy each other's property, we don't need to take life", he said.

"We shall continue with the work that we have started..."

The National Super Alliance (NASA) Presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, who vied for presidency a record fourth time, has refused to concede defeat saying the whole electoral process was a fraud, that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) colluded with the Jubilee Party to steal elections. As with any competition, there shall always be winners, and there shall be losers.

Many observers fear a repeat of the violence which followed the disputed election 10 years ago where more than 1 000 Kenyans died and 600 000 were displaced.

Eight bodies were taken Saturday to the Nairobi city morgue, a lot of them with gunshot wounds, from the protest-hit slums of Mathare, Kibera and Kawangware since Friday night, a senior police official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

However, Mr Odinga's brother Oburu said Saturday that the government appears to be targeting "particular communities in this country".

"Raila Odinga has no right to declare a public holiday".

Top opposition official James Orengo denounced the vote counting process as a "charade".

The anger erupted on Friday night after President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared thevictor by a large margin over Odinga following what election pollsters had described as too close to call.
