At least two events in support of anti-white supremacists protesters in Charlottesville were held in Chicago Aug. 13, the day after one woman was murdered and 19 others were injured when a vehicle plowed into a group fighting the Nazis who had come to their Virginia town.

One woman was killed and many injured when a man plowed his vehicle into a crowd of peaceful counter-protesters who were marching in the street.

Over 400 activists lined both sides of Broadway, at a candlelight vigil against racism, held in Midtown Kingston Monday evening. Scroll through his photos. The community has been terrorized as this surging, hate-fueled movement marched through the city with slogans and chants that encouraged racist violence not only in Charlottesville, but across the United States. Later, a state police helicopter heading toward the violence crashed, leaving two troopers dead.

Several people meditated before the vigil to reflect on the weekend's events.

Hundreds of white supremacists and fascists arrived in Charlottesville to protest the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee, who fought for the pro-slavery Confederacy during the U.S. Civil War.

"We will rally for a kind of protective space to make sure every American is treated with the respect and dignity that they're entitled to", Moiseyev said.

"Everyone saw the events that unfolded in Charlottesville", said Joshua Barreiro, a Vineland resident who helped organize the vigil in Millville. Wherever you are in the world, we'd like you to share your pictures, videos and stories.

"It's important to me to teach our children the voices of peace are stronger than the voices of hate", Bessey said.

"We just want to create a safe space for our community to become whole", said Kenia Leon, Co-Leader, Paradise Indivisible. "My friend Sarah posted something that said 'Torches bring hate".

"I just think everybody feels like they need to be together to support each other. It's a movement against white supremacy, it's a movement against racism and bigotry".
