Stardew Valley announces big update that'll let you marry your friends

Stardew Valley Gets Multiplayer News Expected Release Window Stardew Valley announces big update that'll let you marry your friends

Publisher Chucklefish has finally made some new announcement about the multiplayer mode which is supposed to be coming to Stardew Valley.

Stardew Valley is one heck of a popular life and farming simulator and this year it's getting a big update in the form of multiplayer. Only the main player can decide when to sleep, start and end festivals, and what interactions they would prefer with NPCs.

In multiplayer, the other players will work as your farmhands, living in cabins on the farm that are placed shortly after the game is started. That's been heavily requested, according to the post; how it will work hasn't been decided yet, but it will feature into the update in some way.

On the technical side, Coxon says that you can invite friends to your farm through Steam. Each individual character on the farm will have their own inventory, but when a farmhand isn't online their inventory can be accessed through a special chest in their cabin.

It'll have player-to-player marriage, though! Player-to-player marriage won't use the mermaid pendant, but rather an alternative method that requires a similar amount of effort to wooing an NPC. The primary player will still make the most important decisions, but teaming up with friends will make the valley life much more exciting. We're still working out what that will be.

Chucklefish said earlier this year that the multiplayer update to Stardew Valley that everyone's looking forward to would not be out this summer, and sorry to say, I'm not here to deliver any happy surprises-that still holds true.

You won't need to set up a server to run multiplayer. The invite mechanism for non-Steam versions is TBD, but likely to be similar in most cases. The long awaited multiplayer functionality is nearly upon us and will be entering beta on steam at the end of 2017, before coming to all platforms in early 2018. No split-screen or local multiplayer will be available. Following the PC release, the patch will then be rolled out to consoles starting with the Nintendo Switch.
