Swimmer Missing Off Smith Point Beach

Christy Curtis | 01 August, 2017, 23:43

Meanwhile, police in New Jersey located a woman's body fitting the description of a female swimmer who was reported missing in Point Pleasant Beach.

Witnesses said they saw Kadlec emerge from the water naked and there were several pieces of clothing left in a pile on the beach, according to ABC 7.

The Coast Guard launched a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Station Manasquan Inlet, and an MH-65 Dolphin aircrew from Air Station Atlantic City, to search for the missing swimmer.

A witness told ABC7: "We called some help, we called the police and said there's still a girl in the water". The waters were reported to be rough at the time.

"It's really sad for this community".

Upon his return to shore, Kadlec immediately notified a Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk employee that his girlfriend was still in the water. I think she was a neighborhood individual'.

Point Pleasant Beach police say 24-year-old Zuzana Oravcova, who was reported missing around 2:25 a.m. Sunday, had been swimming in the nude with her boyfriend 23-year-old Thomas Kadlec, also of Slovakia, when both began struggling in the high surf. The search was suspended Sunday evening.

The body of a young woman believed to be Oravcova was found by a lifeguard around 11:50 p.m. Monday night. 'Suspending a search is always a hard decision and it's something we don't take lightly'.

As noted by Pix 11, swimmers are always advised against going into the water when no lifeguards are present, and this last weekend had an increased risk of risky rip currents.
