Trump Dips Below Obama's Worst Approval Rating

Lamar Ellis | 04 August, 2017, 00:25

Twenty-six percent said they viewed Trump as a levelheaded person, while 71 percent say they consider him unstable.

In its daily presidential tracking poll, the president earned a 38 percent approval rating. Gallup puts Trump's approval rating at just 36%, one point away from his historic worst, 35%. Most of the movement toward the Democratic side of the ballot was driven by independents: 34 percent said they'd vote for a Democrat, up 4 points from last week, while 25 percent said they'd opt for a Republican, down 4 points.

Trump's approval rating even dropped to a new low in his coveted Rasmussen tracking poll, which found that just 39% of likely United States voters approved of the job he's doing, compared to 61% who disapproved. It's only gotten worse: FiveThirtyEight's tracker had Trump at a new all-time low of just 37 percent Wednesday. (Of course, it was quickly determined that the cost of medical services for transgender soldiers and personnel is merely a fraction of the military's overall spending, and over ten times less what they spend on erectile dysfunction medication.) And even though several military officials were quick to denounce Trump's proposed ban, there's no doubt that the president's overall message has taken a toll on the trans community.

Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said that "profound embarrassment" over his performance in office and "deepening concern" over his level-headedness were his two major concerns from the poll findings.

The poll also found that negativity towards Trump ran stronger than positivity.

These Republicans Could Challenge Trump In 2020 Presidential Election
Our recent book, Asymmetric Politics, explains why the GOP can not easily be diverted from its conservative path. But Flake admitted that such techniques were "a monumental dodge" and compared the situation to a biblical flood.

Even Rasmussen, the survey that is often most favorable to Trump, hit a record low Wednesday.

A little over a week ago, President Donald Trump announced on Twitter that the US military would no longer let transgender people serve in the military, reversing the policy established by former President Barrack Obama. Those surveyed who strongly disapproved of his job performance outweighed those who strongly approved by a whopping 2:1 margin, Silver calculated.

The recent death of the GOP's party-line effort to overhaul former President Barack Obama's signature 2010 health care law, the Affordable Care Act, also raised the specter of electoral pain for Republicans on Capitol Hill.

The poll was conducted from July 27 to August 1, with the university surveying 1,125 voters nationwide via telephone calls. It found that 68 percent believe transgenders should be able to serve in the military while 27 percent think they should be banned from doing so. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
