Uber selects Dara Khosrowshahi as new CEO to replace Travis Kalanick

Barry Diller, board chairman of the travel booking site, said in a note to employees Monday that he believes Khosrowshahi intends to take the new post, but Diller says nothing has been finalized.

Uber's CEO search just reached its destination. He turned Expedia into the biggest online travel agency in the United States, owning travel sites like Hotels.com, Orbitz, Trivago, HomeAway, Travelocity as well as sites for vacation rentals, auto rentals and so on. In June, co-founder Travis Kalanick was forced out as CEO by the board, after the exec was accused of fostering a work environment hostile to women.

The Uber board of directors has been meeting daily and deliberated on its pick for CEO throughout the weekend.

A board spokeswoman confirmed that the board had voted but declined to disclose its choice publicly until after informing employees. Jeffrey R. Immelt, the former chief of General Electric, was one of the finalists, but he withdrew on Sunday as he did have enough support, sources told the Times.

Since taking the job in 2005, Khosrowshahi helped expand the company to over 75 countries. Before that he served as CEO of IAC Travel, where he helped with the initial expansion of its travel brands, according to a biography on the company website. Before that, he worked at investment firm Allen & Company from 1991 to 1998. It was the first official confirmation that Khosrowshahi has been offered the Uber job.

Sharad said the formation of a Grand Alliance this time would be different to make a real difference on the ground for the people. The rally would be an important event to oust the BJP ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha poll.

In the wake of Fowler's explosive post, Kalanick was contrite and said he was eager to find a COO to help him run the eight-year-old company, which had mushroomed in scale and scope from a small San Francisco company providing black town vehicle rides to providing low-priced travel in more than 80 countries. Though Uber's business has been unaffected by all this, Kalanick's style of management came under scrutiny.

For example, Google self-driving vehicle division Waymo sued Uber and its chief autonomous auto architect, Anthony Levandowski, charging that Uber knew Levandowski had stolen proprietary tech from Google before he sold his self-driving truck company, Otto, to Uber last summer.

Uber has chosen Dara Khosrowshahi to serve as its chief executive, according to numerous sources, capping off many months of scandals and struggles within the rideshare company.

Khosrowshahi - who has worked with Barry Diller and IAC for almost 20 years - will have the tall order of rebuilding Uber's reputation after a tumultuous year in which the company's business practices and culture have come under fire. That included president Jeff Jones, who said that his beliefs about leadership were "inconsistent with what I saw and experienced at Uber".
