In April, a Black Hawk U.S. Army helicopter crashed on a Maryland golf course, killing one crewmember and seriously injuring two others.

A U.S. Black Hawk helicopter crashed off the coast of Yemen on Friday during a training mission and a search was under way for one U.S. service member, the U.S. military said.

Officials are now investigating the crash, which took place almost 20 miles from the southern coast of Yemen, according to U.S. Central Command.

Officials have not yet identified those onboard the aircraft at the time of the crash or the unit the aircraft belonged to.

A service member is missing after a U.S.

"Training events such as this are routinely held by USA forces within a theater of operations in order to maintain their proficiency within the operating environment", CENTCOM told the AP in a statement.

Search and rescue efforts are underway for a missing US service member in the wake of the latest USA military accident.

The crash isn't the first one for a military helicopter in 2017.

Yemen, located on the southern end of the Arabian Peninsula, is engulfed in the years-long civil war.

The group is al-Qaida's second largest affiliate and perhaps its most unsafe, USA defense officials speaking on condition of anonymity told reporters in a briefing earlier this year. The Marine Corps announced Friday it had recovered the bodies of three Marines killed in that crash.
