After playing Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery on Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, Kate Walsh soon found herself on the operating table with a serious health scare. I love to work hard and do 800 things at once, and this was a really incredible lesson in just submitting to the process of healing. The actress didn't talk about her diagnosis publicly, but privately her world was turned upside down as she prepped for a major surgery to have the tumor removed.

She says she did not take her fatigue and other symptoms seriously, thinking it was her busy schedule and not a tumor the size of a lemon pressing on her brain.

Even though the tumor was benign, Walsh said that the whole experience was a big wake-up call for her.

"Thank God I did!" she said. "I figured, okay, I'll change up my workout routine, I'll go back to mellow stuff like hiking".

Now she's a paid spokesperson for Cigna, and she and several other former TV doctors have teamed up to urge others to get checked out. A visit to the neurologist confirmed her worst fears - an MRI uncovered "a very sizable brain tumor" in her left frontal lobe.

Google slapped with lawsuit over pay discrimination
Google newest troubles come as the company faces an investigation by the labor department into sex bias in pay practices. A lawyer representing three female former Google employees is seeking class action status for the claim.

"The words "brain tumor" were never in my zeitgeist", Walsh said. "It was never anything I would have imagined", Walsh recalled.

She returned to work roughly nine months later., shooting the recently released film "Girls Trip" and the upcoming "Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House", as well as the Netflix series "13 Reasons Why" and the Roundabout Theatre Company's Off-Broadway play "If I Forget", which ran from February to April and earned her Drama Desk and Drama League Award nominations. "I shattered my pinkie the night before my MRI, because I had no depth perception".

Walsh told Cosmopolitan that her acting jobs as a doctor did not make her any less afraid of having surgery. In my business, it's not unusual to be working 17 hour days, so it can be really challenging, but now I know I absolutely need 7 or 8 hours of sleep.

She is speaking out and asking people to see a doctor, no matter how small you think the illness is.
