The World Champions West Indies are on a streak of four wins in worldwide matches, including the last three matches in a four-match home series against Afghanistan in June and the one-off T20I in their home series against India the following month. West Indies is now ranked No.9 in the world in the limited overs and they need to clicnh the series by 4-0 or 5-0 against the Three Lions to get the direct qualification advantage.

In a match reduced by a wet outfield to 42 overs per side, West Indies captain Jason Holder top-scored with 41 not out, while all-rounder Ben Stokes led England's attack with three for 43. Chris Gayle returns to the Maroon Brigade that shall be taking on England in a five-match ODI series with an aim to qualify directly for the 2019 ICC World Cup.

Gayle should have been out for a third-ball duck when he edged a drive off Chris Woakes only for Joe Root, England s Test captain, to drop the catch at second slip. A protracted dispute with Cricket West Indies chiefs kept the 37-year-old Jamaica left-hander on the sidelines of the worldwide game for more than two years. Their form was questionable during the recent three-match test series with England, a battle that saw England prevail over the West Indies 2-1.The Caribbean outfit was only operating at their best in the lone Twenty 20 match, which it won convincingly.

West Indies won the T20 on Saturday.

But Holder, who hit Willey to the long-on rope, gave the innings some much-needed impetus.
