Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has met with his Pakistani counterpart Khawaja Muhammad Asif in Tehran to discuss bilateral ties and the latest regional and global developments.

"Basically my main goal of the visit to Iran is to evolve some consensus amongst the neighbours of Afghanistan, because peace in Afghanistan will have a comprehensive effect on the rest of the region", Asif said.

Omar Zakhilwal said peace in Pakistan and Afghanistan was interlinked, making it incumbent that the two nations improve ties. "I believe that if Afghanistan's neighbors and regional countries reach consensus over a political solution for restoring peace to Afghanistan, stability will return to this country", he said.

Before his trip to Iran, Asif had said he aimed to improve regional coordination to facilitate the political settlement of the conflict in Afghanistan.

"Afghanistan, the U.S. and its allies should close their borders to leaders of terrorist, militant groups carrying out acts of terrorism against Pakistan", he added.

Afghanistans relationship with India would not harm Pakistans interests, the top Afghan envoy here said today, urging Islamabad to not object to the ties and maintain "brotherly relationship" with his country.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said it would be counter-productive for the United States to sanction Pakistani officials or further cut military assistance, warning it would hurt both countries' fight against militancy. The two sides also expressed deep concern over the atrocities being committed against Rohingyas in Myanmar.

Khawaja Asif is accompanied by National Security Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Nasser Janjua.

In all fairness, neither the latest outburst of the US President against Pakistan had come as a surprise nor the reaffirmation of firm support of China to Pakistan in the war against terrorism has come as a shock to the people throughout the country.

He is also expected to visit Turkey and meet his Russian counterpart later this month as part of efforts to garner support for the country which is facing mounting global pressure to act against the terror groups.

It is pertinent to mention that Pakistan Foreign Minister Kh.

"The military approach the USA has taken since 2001 to Afghanistan has been failing for the past 16 years".
