Bondi: OJ Simpson not welcome in Florida

OJ Simpson to eat steak, get iPhone after expected release from prison next week OJ Simpson will be making Florida his new home

Simpson has been incarcerated at Lovelock Correctional Center in Nevada since 2008 after he was sentenced to 33 years in prison - nine years minimum - for multiple charges, which included burglary, robbery, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon.

As the clock counts down, indications are that he will begin his parole in the Las Vegas area early next week. "He's feeling very upbeat".

Simpson's lawyers told his parole board there was "no doubt" he would be setting up his new life on the outside in Florida once he is released. But Simpson wasn't off the hook after the not guilty verdict; the families of Goldman and Brown filed suit for wrongful death.

Now, the man who said at his parole hearing that "I've done my time", apparently has new priorities. "If I would have made a better judgment back then, none of this would have never happened".

Attorney Malcolm LaVergne didn't specify where the former sports and movie star would live, although Tom Scotto, a close friend who lives in Naples, Florida, has offered his home.

"He is definitely coming to Florida - but look at the map, it's a big state", LaVergne told the Tampa Bay Times. "I anticipate he's going to have ideal performance as a parolee".

The last leg of O.J. Simpson's odyssey to freedom will cut through one of the grayest, most desolate stretches of America.

"He's really looking forward to the simple pleasures", LaVergne said.

Winston added that if Simpson is ultimately allowed to live in Florida upon his release, Bondi asked for him to be supervised closely with an electronic monitoring bracelet and to be tested for drugs regularly, among other conditions.

That is the earliest eligible date for the 70-year-old to be paroled under a decision reached by a state panel in July.

He retired from football in 1979 after setting numerous rushing records and went on to become an advertising pitchman and actor ("The Towering Inferno", "The Naked Gun"). In October 1995, he was acquitted in the double-murder of his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman, 16 months after he was first charged.

Simpson was arrested after a low-speed auto chase through Los Angeles that was broadcast live by television stations and watched by millions.

Public views on the African-American athlete's guilt or innocence divided sharply along racial lines. But he was found liable for their deaths in a civil case in 1997 and ordered to pay the victims' families $33.5 million.
