United States gets warm words from China's Xi ahead of Trump visit

Trump to Visit S. Korea China Japan in November United States gets warm words from China's Xi ahead of Trump visit

Trump will travel to five countries-Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines-November 3 to 14.

"The president's engagements will strengthen the worldwide resolve to confront the North Korean threat and ensure the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula", the White House said in a statement.

The diplomat said the US' decision to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal early this year had raised questions about the administration's commitment to the region. He will also emphasise the importance of fair and reciprocal economic ties with America's trade partners.

A U.S. official said Asian leaders who met Trump at the United Nations General Assembly in NY last week helped persuade him to attend in unity with key Asian allies.

The President's visit to China will reciprocate a trip to the United States made in April by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Hagerty also said the US government has increased pressure on North Korea "very systematically", and expressed hope that economic sanctions will curb the country's nuclear and ballistic missile ambitions.

Glaser said the U.S. could discuss with Japan and South Korea additional steps for the allies' trilateral defence cooperation against North Korea's nuclear weapon and missile threat.

President Trump plans to travel to Asia in November for the longest overseas journey of his presidency to date as he seeks to build a common front against North Korea's development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, the White House announced Friday.

Bonnie Glaser, director of China Power Project at Center for Strategic and International Studies, told the South China Morning Post that North Korea would "dominate the agenda" with China and all the countries that he visits and at the APEC Summit.

The press release further states, "The President's engagements will strengthen the worldwide resolve to confront the North Korean threat and ensure the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean peninsula". He hosted the Chinese President Xi Jinping at his Mar-a- Lago residence in the early part of his presidency and met the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the Trump Towers in NY as the president-elect.

Even as Washington and Beijing grapple with that security crisis in North Korea, Trump has pressed China for more balanced trade with America.

On Saturday, the United States flew its Air Force B-1B Lancer strategic bombers over worldwide airspace over waters east of North Korea, the farthest north of the demilitarized zone (DMZ) it has flown this century, according to the Pentagon. "And we will stand up against reckless provocations with strong punishment", he said.
