Inspiration for Nittany White Out
It was on a road trip to Ann Arbor for a Penn State - Michigan football game in 2007 when the idea dawned on me. There were 5 of us in a car for this 8 hour road trip west and aside from having tickets and directions to the University of Michigan, we were armed with little else. We didn't know where we would be parking, how we would find accommodations if we happen to stay the night, or even what else other than football, Ann Arbor had to offer its fellow Big Ten guests. Wouldn't it be great if only there was a place where people could find all this information especially pertaining to Big Ten fans that have never visited a specific Big Ten campus before. The best way to fly to a particular campus, where parking can be found, dining spots most popular with locals, and the traditions unique to each individual Big Ten institution could all just be a click away.
The idea never materialized until a friend at SMB College Life convinced me that creating a website is quite possible for someone like me who knows little to nothing about codes and website design. And with that, NittanyWhiteOut.com was born. The purpose of Nittany White Out is to provide the information that inspired its creation.
If there was anything I learned during my four year stint at Penn State, it's that there is nothing quite like Big Ten fans. From State College in the east to Minneapolis in the west, East Lansing up north to Evanston down south, Big Ten country is filled with rabid fans that will travel in massive numbers anytime to anyplace. I've witnessed a contingent of Hawkeye fans make the 790-mile, 4 state trek from Iowa City, Iowa to State College, Pennsylvania just to catch a wrestling bout. Clad in their Hawkeye gold, the continent cheered their Hawkeyes on. This is not unique to just Iowa fans either. Big Ten fans are famous for their ability to travel, and travel well.
Therefore there was really no decision to make when it came to deciding which fan base to cater to at Nittany White Out. Fans from the Big Ten now have a one stop site to find the very information that will make their trip around Big Ten country smoother. You are able to determine where you could possible dine, what else you can visit, and plan other aspects of your road trip well before you even begin packing your bags. You no longer have to search the Internet for information scattered across the Web when it is all now collected at one site. Tickets, airport information, bus schedules, popular traditions, and even hotel location and booking information can all now be found at one site. I hope this eventually serves its purpose and allow fans the mobility to plan their Big Ten roadtrip well in advance without taking the 'wing it' approach when making the trip to support your team. With that, I thereby present NittanyWhiteOut.com and wish you happy travels. |
